Abstract:

Updates from 16th October 2023

  • Revised catch data from Iran gillnet fisheries for 2022

Updates from 12th October 2023

  • New catch data submission from Iran and Oman for 2022

Updates from 19th September 2023

Compared to the previous version, this revised dataset now includes:

  • updated catches for Tanzania (purse seine fishery, 2022)

Important note:

As of 19th September 2023 not all IOTC CPCs have officially submitted the required fishery statistics data for 2022 as per IOTC Res. 15/02.

Therefore, the Secretariat had to take appropriate measures to guarantee that this updated Nominal Catch dataset could be as complete as possible, given the circumstances.

More specifically:

  1. Retained catches (2022) have been retrieved by the Secretariat from officially published data and further disaggregated by species, gear, and area using expert knowledge and historical data for:
    • India (all fisheries)
    • Oman (all fisheries)
  2. Retained catches (2022) have been repeated to the same levels available for 2021 for:
    • I.R. Iran (all fisheries)
    • Pakistan (all fisheries)
    • Madagascar (trolling lines and longlines targeting swordfish)
    • Kenya (longlines targeting swordfish)
    • Tanzania (all fisheries excluding industrial purse seines and longline)
    • Yemen (all fisheries)
    • Eritrea (all fisheries)
    • Sudan (all fisheries)
    • Several non-IOTC members (United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc.), whose annual catch levels are generally available through the FAO global capture statistics, and which have not been updated with 2022 data yet

As soon as the IOTC CPCs listed above will provide official statistics in agreement with IOTC Res. 15/02, the Secretariat will update all corresponding datasets and communicate the changes to the IOTC scientific community in due course.

Updates from 4th September 2023

Compared to the previous version, this revised dataset now includes:

  • official data for EU,Italy (purse seine fishery, 2022)
  • revised official data for Indonesia (all fisheries, 2022)
