Annual retained catches allocated between the high seas and National Jurisdiction Areas, 1950–2021

These data provide historical catch estimates by species, fleet, gear and fishing area, including individual National Jurisdiction Areas (NJAs) and the high seas, as used in the interactive simulation tool developed in support of the IOTC Technical Committee on Allocation Criteria (TCAC).

The dataset currently corresponds to the same catch series used at the 15th session of the TCAC, covering the period 1950–2021. Since TCAC15, substantial revisions and updates to historical catch data have been identified, notably for some fleets and countries. Work is ongoing to update the catch series and, once finalised, revised data may be made available for use in future simulations.

These catch estimates are used to support the calculation of catch-based allocation components and to assign catches to fishing areas based on the methodology endorsed by the TCAC.

The dataset is provided as a CSV file, which can be opened directly in common spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel or LibreOffice Calc, or viewed using any standard text editor.
