The Working Party on Methods (WPM) is the technical body responsible for reviewing and developing methodological approaches to support the assessment, monitoring, and management of tuna and tuna-like species in the IOTC area of competence.
In accordance with its Terms of Reference, the WPM evaluates and recommends statistical, modelling, and analytical methods, develops guidelines for data collection and reporting, and provides methodological advice to the Scientific Committee and other Working Parties. Its work ensures that scientific assessments and recommendations are based on robust, transparent, and internationally accepted methods. The WPM reviews and analyses methodological issues relevant to the assessment of the status of species under the IOTC mandate (outcomes are usually applicable to many of the other Working Parties).
