Working Party on Tropical Tunas (WPTT)

Purpose

The Working Party on Tropical Tunas (WPTT) is the technical body responsible for reviewing and analysing issues related to the fisheries and stock status of the three oceanic tropical tuna species under the IOTC mandate: bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus), skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis), and yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares).

In accordance with its Terms of Reference, the WPTT evaluates fisheries data, stock assessments, and management measures for these oceanic species, and provides science-based advice and recommendations to the Scientific Committee and the Commission to support their sustainable management throughout the IOTC area of competence. The WPTT  reviews and analyses issues relevant to the fisheries and status of the three tropical tuna species under the IOTC mandate.
