In September and October 2014, the IOTC-OFCF project provided calipers to the national fisheries organizations of Seychelles and Indonesia to facilitate the collection of size data and, in the longer term, improve future reporting of size-frequency data of tuna and tuna-like species under the mandate of the IOTC Secretariat.
On 1st October 2014, 15 calipers (size 1270mm) were delivered to Seychelles Fishing Authority to support the data collection of the organization’s Scientific Observer Programme.
In the case of Indonesia, on 5th September 2014, 12 calipers were delivered to the Directorate General of Capture Fisheries as part of a pilot sampling project currently being conducted in West Sumatra and North Sumatra. The objective of the pilot project – also funded in part by the IOTC-OFCF Project – is to devise a collection and management strategy for fisheries data for coastal fisheries of Indonesia in line with national and international data requirements, and in particular the IOTC Regional Observer Scheme and compliance with IOTC Data requirements.
